Summary:

At first sight, this system stands out with its interesting design. As Brondell is also certified by WQA, quality of the product is ensured. There is a 3 stage filtration system installed which ensures that all dangerous substances are removed from the water. The drawback is that customers have to replace each filter separately which makes it less convenient.

The system filters water continuously, and no water is wasted. This product is suitable for people that are looking for good design and also live in the area with high costs of water supply, as this system does not waste any water. A couple of drawbacks to consider is that there is no reminder mechanism and thus you will have to remember when you replaced a filter and also tap of the filter is very short, so it might be inconvenient to fill a bigger bottle.

Customers might also be interested in the alternative from the same company called Brondell Pearl, which is less complex system than Cypress.

The Brondell H2O+ Cypress Countertop Water Filter System delivers high-quality filtration at an affordable price. Its 3-stage filter removes greater than 99% of many volatile organic compounds including benzene, toluene, and xylene. The system also removes at least 98% of chlorine, taste, and odor and between 95 and 99% of many other VOCs as detailed on the performance data sheet. The nanotrap stage filter also removes some bacteria and other microbes using a 2-micron pore size. This system does not remove chloramine, lead, mercury, and asbestos. Filtered water has the same pH as the unfiltered water – this is not an alkaline system. Beneficial minerals like calcium and magnesium remain in the filtered water.

This contaminant removal is WQA Gold Seal Certified, meaning that the removal rates have been independently tested and verified by the Water Quality Association (WQA). The 3-stage system uses Brondell’s patented technology uses the following three stages to achieve high rates of removal:

  • Stage 1: Composite Plus Filter: Removes coarse to fine particles including sand and rust.
  • Stage 2: Nanotrap Filter: Brondell’s patented nanotechnology filter uses nano alumina and cellulose fibers to remove microbes (2-micron pore size).
  • Stage 3: Carbon Block Filter: This final stage further reduces particulates while removing bad tastes and odors and water contaminants such as chlorine and volatile organic compounds (VOCs).

Stages one and three should be replaced every six months or after 150 gallons, and Stage 2 should be replaced every 12 months. Filter replacement is straightforward and quick.

One advantage of this system is that it filters water continuously. No water is wasted like complex reverse osmosis system. There’s also no wait time – once the system is set-up, you can consistently dispense filtered water at your convenience. The filter flow rate is 0.5 gallons per minute which are comparable to other similar filters.

Water is dispensed by pressing a button on the top of the unit. Consumers have reported that this button can easily break. If this happens, it is possible to use the switch at the faucet to start and stop the water flow.

The Cypress system has a modern look, its small size always for an easy fit in any kitchen. Only one style and the color is offered for this system. Brondell does provide one other countertop system that has an entirely different look: the Brondell Pearl – a smaller, less complex countertop system.

While Brondell’s other products have reminder mechanisms, the Cypress does not. The user must write on each filter the replacement date. You can always set a reminder using a cell phone app.

The system comes with several adapters so that installation should work with 99% of standard kitchen faucets without the need for additional parts. Installation is expected to take no more than 10 minutes. The installation process can be seen in the video below.

The tubing is 5 feet long and is a standard quarter inch high-pressure tubing, which can be found at a local hardware store or home depot. The length of the tubing allows for the unit to be placed either next to or away from the sink.

Pros
  • Installed in 10 minutes
  • Interesting design choice
  • WQA Certified
  • Affordable price
Cons
  • No reminder mechanism
  • Button can be easily broken
  • Only 150 gallons of water filtered before replacement

Some users might find the height of the dispenser challenging to use. Tall glasses, water bottles, and other containers may not fit under the nozzle. The water is dispensed very close to the unit, so if a container has a thick wall, it may also be difficult to fill.

The system comes with a one-year warranty and is phthalate and BPA-free. Generally, the Brondell H2O+ Cypress system offers many advantages – including a space-saving design and relatively good filtration performance. One of the most significant concerns with this system is the tendency for the button to break. You may also consider other countertop systems if this is a concern for you.
